by Michael Phillips
Christian readers paying attention to today’s headlines will find Michael Phillips’ most recent 4-volume fiction series, Tribulation Cult, strikingly relevant if not prophetic. Michael imagines a future America transformed by decades of political compromise, cultural upheaval, and the growing influence of Islam. The result is a chilling vision that echoes many of the debates dominating today’s news cycle.
Woven through dystopian geopolitical suspense undergirded by biblical themes, all four books of the series challenge thinking Christians to ask how Christians should respond to these seismic changes that will shape the church of the future. Will a remnant church be called out of the larger Church? If so, what will that remnant look like, and what will be its role in a nation that may be spiraling toward what many believe are the end times.
In his characteristic style Michael has crafted a series of speculative thrillers that explore faith, freedom, and progressive cultural transformation with shrewd insight into the deeper currents at work around us today. Spanning the century between the 1960s and 2060s, the multiple generations of the story witness, and must respond to, changes brought about from the tumultuous 1960s through the transformative Obama and Trump years, and beyond...into a future none can predict with certainty.
Will current trends continue? Will the erosion of constitutional liberties, the weakening of national sovereignty, and the normalization of socialism and the rise of Islam represent the wave of a future in which biblical Christianity is increasingly viewed as a threat to society? Or will Christians stem the tide through prayer and obedience, and lead our nation back to its founding principles?
Others have called the series prophetic. Michael Phillips only says that Tribulation Cult may be the most important fiction series he has ever written.
