The five volumes of the Eyewitness Bible are comprised of engaging and easy-to-read introductions, backgrounds, and (for the New Testament volumes only), chapter by chapter overviews of all the books of the Bible. Rather than following the strict chronology of most printed Bibles, the texts of Scripture are considered in approximate chronological order, both of the events and the order in which the books were originally written. This adds an “eyewitness” you-are-there reality to the history of events as they unfold. Throughout his writing career, one of Michael Phillips’s chief priorities has been to challenge his readers to think about their faith and their walks with God. In the volumes of the Eyewitness Bible, his mastery of the storyteller’s art brings the Bible and the history of the times alive in new, fresh, and often startling and unexpected ways. By posing what are occasionally unusual and thought-provoking possibilities that lie between-the-lines of the familiar scriptural texts, he challenges readers to think outside the boxes of their comfort zones, to think as eyewitnesses. These books are guaranteed to make you think, and it is our prayer that they will help you get closer to the Author of the Bible.

Book 4: Eyewitness Old Testament: The Story of Israel—Beginnings to David
Michael Phillips’s illuminating and challenging chronological journey through the Bible begins with most ancient of the Hebrew writings and the eras of the patriarchs and judges. Tracing Israel’s history from antiquity to the arrival of David on the scene, the chronology follows the approximate order in which the books of the Old Testament are thought to have been written. That uncertain chronology is blended with the historic sequence of the events themselves. Volume 1 of the Eyewitness Old Testament covers the books of Job, Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy, Joshua, Judges, Ruth, 1 & 2 Samuel, and 1 Chronicles.
Book 5: Eyewitness Old Testament: The Story of Israel—The Monarchy to the Restoration
Michael Phillips’s illuminating and challenging chronological journey through the Bible continues with the later Hebrew writings of the king and prophets, and the eras of their influence. The chronology follows both the approximate order in which the books are thought to have been written along with the historic sequence of the events themselves. Volume 2 of the Eyewitness Old Testament covers the books of Psalms, 1 Kings, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Songs, 2 Kings, 2 Chronicles, Jonah, Joel, Amos, Hosea, Micah, Isaiah, Zephaniah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Jeremiah, Lamentations, Obadiah, Ezekiel, Daniel, Haggai, Zechariah, Esther, Ezra, Nehemiah, and Malachi.
